A quiet winter

I’ve been quiet in this blog, only because art life has been quiet over the winter months. I did however complete a long overdue project piece which has been available on my site for a couple of months. Stricken is my latest print and probably the closest to home. The image is a depiction of a yacht that was washed ashore after a storm at Mount Maunganui. The photo appeared in the local newspaper which became my reference image for the drawing and then into a woodcut reduction.
The overall mood of the work, is totally new for me. I tend to create art about summer fun times always with a bit of retrospection of times gone by.

Stricken though is more about loss and darker times in our life with the metaphor of the storm over head. I often use vessels in my work to depict me a personification of sorts. Stricken has also the hope that will come after the storm. The family walking on the beach shows us that despite it all, another day will come.

Anyway, Spring is here in New Zealand, lambs and daffodils in the fields. I am currently working on a new print this week so watch out for more new work. Thank you so much for staying and reading my blog it really helps the website and my work get out there.
